“PETAR TRANTEEV” COLLECTION

With its scientific and historic value, Petar Tranteev’s collection of cave speleothems is one of the most prominent among the collections maintained at the Earth and Man National Museum.

It is brought together by Petar Tranteev, the founder of the organized speleology movement in Bulgaria. He assembled it in the course of 45 years, while performing cave mapping and research. A notable part of the collection are the cave pearls – one of Petar Tranteev’s favorite scientific research topics. He pursued them with astonishing dedication, perseverance, precision and the gift of a natural born researcher.

Petar Tranteev’s collection was donated to the Earth and Man National Museum in 1987 by his sons Bojan and Martin Tranteev. It is located in the Morphology of Cave Speleothems exhibition. An inventory catalog of the collection has been issued with financial support from the 13 Centuries of Bulgaria National Endowment Fund.
